Chuckwagon
The Pioneer Lions
Chuckwagon, a trailer equipped with a hamburger grill, pop (soda)
dispensers, hot-dog machines, popcorn machine, a refrigerator and
freezer is a familiar sight to those who frequent special events
locally, such as the 4th of July

celebration and the
Cowlitz County fair. The "Chuckwagon" can support 9 Lions and/or
family members who help cook for and serve to the customers. This
activity has several purposes: It serves as a convenient place for
those who attend these events to buy food, snacks and candy, and it
provides substantial financial support for many of the Lions'
community service clubhistory. The "Chuckwagon" will provide almost
one-third of this year's program funding.
Beer Garden
Each year, the
Pioneer Lions host a Beer Garden (Oktoberfest…). This event is held annually just before the 4th of July adjacent to the Cowlitz
County Fairgrounds. This is a highly anticipated social event, where
people who don't often see each other can get together and catch up
on what's happening. The "Chuckwagon" is there to provide food, and
our smaller cooler wagon dispenses beer and wine coolers.

This open air event draws between five and ten thousand people each year
(significantly fewer when it rains). The
club is greatly appreciative of the assistance and support of local
Law Enforcement who have helped to keep these events safe and
successful year after year.
Mint Sales
The Pioneer Lions
are deeply involved in the sales of Lions Mints. With the
cooperation of local businesses, the club has almost 200 mint sales
outlets set up. These locations are serviced by just a few Lions,
but they bring in several thousand dollars each year. This is
a smaller scale project with
solid returns for the community.
Golf Tournament
This is a new
project in its second year. A local course is used and an entry fee
required. Prizes are awarded for lowest score, hole in one…. A
dinner follows with excellent door prizes. Funds brought in this
year tripled those netted the first year.
Special Sales
A
number of promotional sales by a few dedicated Lions boost our
revenues each year. Entertainment coupon books for discount prices
at hotels, restaurants, theme parks, visitor attractions and
airlines, as well as periodic candy sales help to increase our
community service budget.
